I'm pleased to announce that you can take a sneak peek at Block Central's newest free block of the month quilt project here. The name of this quilt is Sentimental Journey and we will take a journey into the music of yesteryear.
You can find the fabric requirements online now. The cutting chart for the entire quilt will be posted very soon.
I hope you join me for this fun project!

Year's Favorite Quilt Block
Here's another traditional quilt block pattern that I've just now posted on BlockCentral.com. It is called Year's Favorite and is made up of four squares and twelve half-square triangles. It measures 12" finished size and can be made quick and easy, especially if you use my FREE half-square triangle paper.
You can find the pattern here: Year's Favorite

Quilt Du Jour.....Found!
A while back, I noticed that the Quilt Du Jour website featuring the fun and whimsical quilt patterns of Charlene McCain had disappeared from the web. It was with great disappointment that I removed this listing from the Block Central Quilt Directory because I had always admired the fresh designs that she offered. My favorite in particular was a quilt featuring retro television sets. :)
Today, I was notified by her niece that her patterns are once again available for sale. They are now located here:

This is wonderful news and I'm thrilled that I have second chance to purchase that TV quilt pattern!

Christmas Star Quilt Block Pattern
I posted a new quilt block pattern up on Block Central today! It is called "Christmas Star" and it is a 10" (finished size) pieced block.
It is a five-patch block which is somewhat unusual for me because I seem to be forever writing instructions for nine-patch blocks. It is a very striking design and was first published almost 90 years ago in The Oklahoma Farmer Stockman.

Pretty Kitty Block Swap
The Winter 2010 Pretty Kitty Block Swap is now ready to take registrations. If you'd like to swap 6" (finished size) cat-themed quilt blocks with other like-minded quilters, you are invited to join in the fun!
The deadline to register is December 1st, 2009. The blocks will need to be postmarked by January 2nd, 2010.
You can find out more about the swap (an ongoing quarterly swap that has been operating for TEN years!) by visiting this page:
By the way, the amazing cat block on the banner at the top of this post was made by Lisa Jenni, a wondrous art quilter. I was lucky enough to receive this block in a Pretty Kitty swap several years ago and I've treasured it ever since!

365 Paper Pieced Quilt Blocks
I got a wild hair yesterday and decided to challenge myself to create and post a new paper-pieced quilt block pattern everyday for the next year. I set up a blog for ease of publishing and for scheduling posts in advance when I know that I won't be able to get to the computer.
The first block is up and it is a little strange, but it's what popped out of my head this morning. :)

Not So Good News for MyQuilt Blog
I finally got a response from the webhosting company this afternoon. They said that the attack on the server that hosts MyQuiltBlog.com had rendered the backup files unusable. The only way to restore the website was to reinstall the software that runs MyQuiltBlog.com. I knew that I had saved a backup of MQB back in April, so I thought I could at least restore it to that point. After reinstalling the software, the database was empty...no blogs, users, etc. I tried restoring the April backup several times and each time got an error.
The next step is to contact the software developers to see if they can offer any help in restoring April backup. I'll let you know what happens when I find out what can be done about the backup.
So, the Good News is that MyQuiltBlog.com exists again, but the bad news is that it is the blogs are not back in place yet. Keep your fingers crossed that I can get the April backup to work!

No News on MyQuiltBlog.com
To all the MyQuiltBlog.com members, I'm posting just a quick note to let you know that our site still has not been restored after Thursday's "attack". (Our site was not targeted specifically...it affected hundreds of websites on several servers and our webhosting company has assured me that they are working diligently to restore each site one by one to the condition it was in before the "attack".
Hold tight and be patient. (I'm saying that more to myself than anyone else because I am definitely not known for my patience with computer issues, lol!)
I'll keep you updated here on this blog, so check back in. :)

Server Move to KNoblin.com
Good Morning!
You may have noticed that when you type in BlockCentral.com, you are sent to knoblin.com. This is my backup site for Block Central in case anything goes wrong on the other server. Thank goodness that I took this extra step to ensure that BlockCentral.com would always be available, because something went wrong with the other server!
It happened on Thursday, June 4, 2009 and by Saturday, June 7th, the problem still had not been resolved. I changed a few settings so that BlockCentral.com would resolve to knoblin.com and all of the content is now available for you to enjoy.
If you have any questions, let me know.
Thank you for your patience and understanding over the last few days.
